Guy was educated at UTAS and admitted to practise to the Supreme Court of Tasmania on 1 November 1984. Since that time he has practised in many areas of the law and appeared in the Magistrates’, Supreme and Federal Courts.

He has worked as an employed Counsel, operated his own practice and partner in a National firm. During the last 12 years he has been retained by a group of private equity and investment corporations advising in construction, mergers and acquisitions, property acquisition and development (urban, business and farming), commercial and retail leasing and planning. Outside the Law, Guy has for many years been involved in sporting administration at a ‘semi-  professional’ level. In 2011 he undertook study within the Australian Football League and passed an examination to become an accredited AFL player manager. This enabled him to  assist the drafting of young Tasmanian players to the AFL.
