Philip has a strong commercial background, having worked for a large international firm for a number of years during which time he advised many listed and large private corporations. He is a Chartered Accountant and was the Victorian candidate of the year in his Chartered Accountants� course.

Philip is a sessional member of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal in its building and property, civil claims, owners corporations and residential tenancies lists and has been a member of the Victorian Fisheries Licensing Appeals Tribunal. As well as private clients, he has been engaged by a variety of government clients including the Attorney-General of Victoria, Federal and State Commissioners of Taxation, ASIC, the Official Trustee in Bankruptcy, WorkSafe, the Victorian Government Solicitors Office, the Australian Government Solicitor, and the Victorian Registrar of Titles. The cases he has appeared in for these government clients include a number of complex administrative and constitutional law matters.

Philip has appeared a number of times in the High Court and has acted in numerous commercial and property matters in other courts and tribunals, including acting for ASIC in 2018 in the Royal Commission into misconduct in the banking, financial services and superannuation industry. He has a particular interest in taxation and superannuation and has acted for the Commissioner of Taxation and private taxpayers in a number of leading cases in those fields. He is the author of Bender�s Australian Stamp Duties, published by the Tax Institute.

Philip has an extensive advisory and disputes practice in the trusts and deceased estates field as well and has also advised and acted in not-for-profit matters for private charities and for the Attorney-General of Victoria.
