Maree has over 20 years’ experience as a lawyer, practising in Victoria and Tasmania.

She has a busy trial and appellate practice, with particular expertise in the following areas:

 Inquests, inquiries and commissions

 Personal injuries and tort
 
 Public and administrative law 

 Regulatory and disciplinary matters

Maree was Counsel Assisting the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings from 2021- 2022 (led by E Bennett SC, now Justice Bennett of the Federal Court).

She is currently briefed as Counsel Assisting the Coroner in the Coronial Inquest into the Hillcrest Primary School jumping castle tragedy. 

Prior to commencing practice as a barrister in 2010, Maree was an Associate to the Honourable Justice Neave of the Victorian Court of Appeal, and a Senior Associate in the Litigation practice group at Allens.  She completed a Master of Law degree at the University of Cambridge, on a scholarship from the Cambridge Trusts.  She also has a First Class Honours undergraduate degree in law from the University of Tasmania.
