Maree has a First Class Honours degree in law from the University of Tasmania and a Master of Law degree from the University of Cambridge. Since her admission in 2005 she has practised in Victoria, first as a solicitor with Allens and, from 2010 onwards, as a member of the Victorian Bar. She also served as an Associate to the Honourable Justice Neave of the Victorian Court of Appeal.

She has a busy trial and appellate practice, focused on the following areas:
Commercial law
Employment law
Inquests, inquiries and commissions
Personal injuries and tort
Public and administrative Law

Maree is also available to undertake investigation work. Her experience in this area is focused on educational settings, and includes conducting an independent complaints process in relation to sexual harassment and related matters for the University of Tasmania in 2020, and an investigation under the Child Wellbeing & Safety Act 2005 (Vic) in 2019.
