Nikolas appears in all Australian jurisdictions but primarily within Tasmania and the Federal Court or Federal Circuit and Family Court. He is skilled in personal injury cases ranging from statutory compensation disputes to complex common law historical abuse matters. He has an equally busy commercial litigation practise that encompasses insolvency disputes, contract claims, property litigation and professional indemnity litigation. He is less often found advising on local government or regulatory review matters, including in the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Prior to moving to Tasmania in 2022, Nikolas worked and appeared in all courts and tribunals of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Before being called to the Bar he was Special Counsel at a national firm, having worked as a solicitor for nine years across a range of complex commercial and insurance disputes.
Nikolas has longstanding experience in family law but will only accept such briefs on a case-by-case basis. He does not accept briefs under the Family Violence and Cross-Examination of Parties Scheme, but for appropriate cases he will consider acting on such matters under pro-bono arrangements. He otherwise accepts briefs in all areas of law.
Prior to practising law Nikolas gained extensive civil experience as the Associate to Master (now Justice) David Mossop in the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. He holds a Juris Doctor from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Science from Burman University in Canada.
