He practised extensively in family law prior to his appointment as a judge of the Family Court in 2005. He left the bench in May 2021.
Robert has had a strong history in mediation, arbitration, negotiation and forms of dispute resolution. He is aa AIFLAM Arbitrator.
He is extensive involved in legal professional development. He has assisted with the development of non-adversarial dispute resolution in other countries including Indonesia, Japan and Zimbabwe.
He was the President of the New South Wales Law Society in 2003.
Robert was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2015 for his significant service to the judiciary and to the law, legal education, mediation and arbitration and professional standards.
