The Tasmanian Bar is Australia’s youngest Bar Association, becoming a constituent member of the Australian Bar Association in 1996.
Barristers in Tasmania are governed by the Legal Profession (Barristers) Rules 2016 (Tas), which adopt the Legal Profession Uniform Conduct (Barristers) Rules 2015 (NSW).
The Tasmanian Bar Council are elected members who volunteer to act as the voice for its constituents. The Tasmanian Bar is often called upon for input into developing legislation and policy within Tasmania and Australia. Office bearers are elected annually.
